Running for Greeley City Council – Ward III
Meet Val Leal-Whitehead
I’m a proud Colorado native and have called Greeley home since 1967. After graduating from University High School, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Northern Colorado in 1981. My 43-year nursing career—most of it dedicated to cardiology—was fueled by a deep commitment to helping people live healthier, fuller lives. Now retired, I’m ready to bring that same dedication, compassion, and attention to detail to serving my community.

I’m married to my husband, Bill Whitehead, and together we’ve built a life rooted in Greeley’s values. We’re proud parents to Wilson and Carmen, and our family’s story is deeply intertwined with the history, challenges, and triumphs of this community.
Why I'm Running
I’m running for office because I listen. I love Greeley, and I want to make sure our city continues to be a place where everyone can thrive. I’ve lived here for nearly 60 years—21 of those in Ward 3—and I’ve seen firsthand the changes, opportunities, and challenges our community has faced.

I bring 10 years of experience as an elected official with Greeley-Evans School District 6, where I earned a reputation for being consistent, reliable, and objective. In every meeting, I’ve shown up prepared, informed, and ready to make decisions that reflect the needs and voices of the people I serve. My goal is simple: to be your voice at the table.

My Core Values
Fiscal Responsibility: Respecting taxpayer dollars and ensuring budgets are transparent and effective.
Quality of Life for All: Promoting policies that enhance the well-being of every resident.
Accountability & Transparency: Committing to openness in every decision and vote I take.
